The Protomen are a Nashville-based rock band. Their music has themes of operatic rock, but is often grouped with chiptune, nerd rock, and nintendocore due to its ties to the video game Mega Man.

Beginnings Edit

The start of the band can be traced back to 2003. The original lineup consisted of Panther, Commander, Murphy, Demon Barber, Scartoe, Heath, and Doug Fetterman. Original members were based in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and the band's start was at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). As cited in multiple interviews, the band originally composed and recorded music based on Mega Man for a grade, despite their teachers not being too impressed. Their feedback has always been mixed.

The Protomen (Album) Edit

The first album (often called Act I by fans after the release of Act II) began as a series of school projects. The first song recorded from the album was Due Vendetta, a hard rock composition. Commander recalls the basis of the song being a pulsating headache[1]. They were supplied with digital means to record the audio, but instead decided to go the analog route. The album was released in 2005, with artwork, design, and all production done by the band.
